Linear AP-5 Access Controller
The AP-5 is designed for a broad range of access control applications. Its wireless
design and small size make it easily adaptable for a variety of access control
requirements. Typically, the AP-5 is used to control one or two door strikes, barrier
gates, automatic gates, or door operators. The AP-5 contains a high-gain
superheterodyne UHF receiver which uses an external antenna to pick up signals from
up to 500 feet away. Up to 480 Linear MegaCode transmitters or 238 MDKP keypad
entry codes, and six Model MGT gate safety edge transmitters can be programmed into
the AP-5’s memory.

The AP-5 is a stand alone wireless access controller capable of receiving MegaCode signals from Linear's block coded
transmitters up to 500 feet away. It has three separate relays: access, obstacle, and one configurable to either access or
obstacle. This system architecture makes it easy to setup, program and configure for applications requiring access control,
vehicular gates, pedestrian gates, door strike or mag-locks of commercial office building doors, or any combination. Its
wireless design and smaller size makes it suitable for mounting near all access devices.
The Access relays of AP-5 are programmable for activation time from 1 to 120 seconds or for latch mode. For automatic
swing and slide gates, up to six gate edge transmitters (Linear’s model MGT) can be assigned to obstacle relays to detect
entrapment and to trigger an obstacle input on the operator. The MGT is fully supervised gate safety edge transmitter and
automatically sends an hourly status report to the AP-5, indicating battery condition and if the transmitter is operational.
Should the edge sensor be disconnected, shorted, or tampered with, the MGT will report a trouble condition.
The AP-5 is compatible with Linear’s block coded MegaCode format transmitters, which come factory programmed with one of
over 1,000,000 possible codes, all but eliminating any chance of duplication. It accepts either 480 block coded transmitters or
238 individual transmitters or wireless keypad entry codes. For the latter, the AP-5 can be used with Linear’s wireless MDKP
and MDTK keypads, which accept user codes of two to six digits and transmit them to the AP-5 controller where access is
granted or denied. Installation and set-up is simple. The AP-5 operates on 12-24 volts, AC or DC. It can be powered directly
from the radio power output of most gate operators. Learning or suspending transmitters is as simple as pressing a few keys
on the AP-5’s built-in keypad. Program data is stored in non-volatile EEPROM; data retention is in excess of ten years, even
in the event of a power failure. In the access control system, the AP-5 represents tremendous value with many operational
and safety features.
